The East Village Inky
The East Village Inky started back in 1998, when I was living in a 340 sq. ft. apartment on East 9th St. I had a one-year-old baby and an increasingly urgent need to regain some semblance of a creative identity that had thrived Off-Off-Broadway. A handwritten, hand-illustrated, autobiographical mini-zine seemed like the most manageable option.
Two and a half decades later, the format remains the same, and the content has evolved from anecdotes of hectored maternity to thematic explorations of whatever captures my attention: Mail, NYC museums, Kurt Vonnegut, sports from the POV of someone who was chronically picked last for gym …
Each issue is 40 jam-packed quarter-sized pages. I keep things cheap because I like a bargain and try to live by the Golden Rule.
